Dads and Babies Massage Class

At Mother & Child, we offer massage classes for dads and babies. Fathers have found that getting involved right from the start helps empower them as a parent. By participating in these massage classes, fathers learn their baby's non verbal cues and become an expert on their own child.

"In the process of giving the massage, fathers get to know their children in an extraordinary way. They connect with a deep part of themselves - their nurturing side. When their fathers give extra attention the children have more confidence and exhibit more creativity. Men and manhood are changing. Let us continue to get fathers more seriously involved in child rearing. Infant massage is a golden opportunity to assist in this transformation. The world is a better place every time an infant is massaged, and men need to be part of this." - Tom Daly, Psychologist

Dads and Babies massage classes are held on the last Saturday of every month. Please contact the centre to make a reservation.

Postnatal Services

Well Baby Clinic

Our Well Baby Clinic is an essential service to every new family, especially one without the support of family and friends from home. In addition to weighing and measuring your baby to track growth and progress, our trained staff (Nurses, Health Visitors and Maternal and Child Health Educators) provide essential feedback, assistance and advice on raising and caring for your newborn baby and infant.

Topics covered at the Well Baby Clinic include:

  • Growth (tracking weight, length, head circumference);
  • Development (following expected milestones);
  • Sleep problems;
  • Feeding problems (breast, bottle, solids);
  • Breastfeeding consultation and support;
  • Play and stimulation;
  • Immunization;
  • Baby health in the tropics;
  • Safety.

Our nurses also screen mothers for Post Natal Depression to ensure early detection and referral for further help.

Parents can feel free to ask any question relating to their baby. Our staff will provide answers, support, and referrals to other health care professionals if required. Importantly, we provide continuity of care. Our staff can be a very helpful support to new families, through the good as well as more difficult times with a new baby. The clinic is drop-in style, meaning no appointment is necessary. Staff will spend 15 to 20 minutes with each family. The clinic is run in a social and open atmosphere. Many mothers enjoy the social aspect of the clinic, and will often go out for coffee or lunch afterwards. You may also book private one-on-one sessions for more in-depth consultations.

Lactation Consultations

Mother & Child has professional Lactation Consultants on staff to help you with breastfeeding concerns and problems. Lactation Consultations can be arranged at Mother & Child, in the hospital, or in the comfort of your own home.

  • Learn the principles of good breastfeeding techniques. Breastfeeding is a learned skill. It should be100% pain free when done properly.
  • If you are not enjoying breastfeeding due to discomfort, if you know that it does not feel right, get the help of a Certified Lactation Consultant early.
  • Have a one-on-one session with one of our Lactation Consultants who will observe a feed and help you to latch correctly. A good latch is the basis to successful lactation.
  • Get off to a good start. Give your baby the best start in life!
Developmental Assessments

Developmental Assessments are measurements of the milestones your child should attain in terms of:

  • Fine motor skills and gross motor skills;
  • Language and socialization;
  • Height and weight;
  • General wellness.

They are usually done at:

  • 8 months;
  • 18 months;
  • 2.5 years;
  • 3.5 years.

Developmental Assessments are conducted by trained staff (Health Visitors, Maternal and Child Health Educators). They are by-appointment and last approximately forty five minutes.

Postnatal Massage

Massage therapy is not only great before childbirth, but also after. Postnatal massage focuses on helping to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy condition by retraining muscles and connective tissue. It can help to realign the body weight to its original distribution, helps reinstate the uterus to its original state, eliminates excess body fluids and tones the overstretched areas of skin, especially over the abdomen. Postnatal massage sessions are held in the comfort of your own home.
