Growing Together: How Mother & Child Supports Families at Every Stage

Mother & Child is a Singapore prenatal and postnatal support centre that helps families through every stage of early parenthood — from childbirth preparation and breastfeeding support to newborn care, caregiver training, and support for dads. But the fuller story is less about programmes and more about a question we keep asking: what do families actually need today?

Here's how that question has shaped everything we've built — and where we're heading next.

It started with one question

When Dr Mythili took over Mother & Child in July 2023, it began with a single, simple question: what do families need today? Not what's easiest to offer or what looks good on a brochure — what genuinely helps a family in the thick of early parenthood. That question has guided every decision since.

Support after birth — and before it

We started by strengthening breastfeeding and postnatal support, including Baby Café — a space where parents can ask questions, share experiences, and find the village so many of us are missing.

But parents soon told us they needed more than help after birth; they wanted to feel prepared before it, too. So we expanded our Holistic Childbirth Preparation programme and strengthened our Care of the Newborn support.

Because babies aren't raised by parents alone

Then we realised something else: babies aren't raised by parents alone. Grandparents, helpers and caregivers all play a part.

So alongside our long-standing Infant First Aid courses, we introduced Cradle Care and Mary Poppins — so everyone caring for a baby could learn the same evidence-based approach. When the whole circle of care is aligned, a child receives consistent, confident care from every pair of hands.

And fathers, from the very beginning

Families aren't built around mothers and caregivers alone, either. Fathers today want to be involved from the very start.

Through Dad Skills and our growing Daddy Crew community, we've created spaces where dads can learn, connect, and find their own place in the parenting journey — because the transition into fatherhood deserves support too.‍ ‍

Making preparation simpler

Most recently, we've made preparing for a baby simpler with two bundles — because raising a child works best when everyone is on the same page:‍ ‍

Growing with the families we serve‍ ‍

The babies who first came through our doors are becoming toddlers now — and Mother & Child is growing with them. We're already developing new ways to support families beyond the newborn stage. We're not ready to share the details yet, but there's more to come. ‍

What we're proudest of‍ ‍

Looking back, we're not proudest of the number of programmes we've introduced. We're proudest of the community we've built together. Every class, every café, every initiative has come from listening to the families who trusted us with their journey.‍ ‍
