Which training does your helper need?

A simple way to decide, based on what your caregiver will actually be doing at home.

01

She'll be handling the baby every day

Feeds, baths, nappies, naps, settling. If that's the job, start with Cradle Care — it gets everyone in the house doing things the same way, the way you want them done.

Read the Cradle Care syllabus

02

She'll be alone with the children

School runs, meal times, bath time without you home. Choose First Aid for Helpers so choking, a fall, a scald or a febrile seizure meets a trained response, not panic.

03

Both — she's the main caregiver

A newborn plus a helper who is new to your home needs both sides: the everyday routine and the emergency. The Essential Caregivers Bundle covers them together for $480.

Cradle Care: newborn care training for helpers and nannies

We place enormous trust in the people who help care for our babies — yet without standardised training, the quality of that care varies widely. In one 2.5-hour workshop, midwives and healthcare professionals take your helper, nanny or grandparent through the newborn skills they will use every single day, with hands-on practice and open discussion throughout.

A person's hand holding a baby's foot, with another hand gently supporting the baby's other leg, on a surface with star patterns.

Who should attend

Domestic helpers, nannies, confinement nannies, grandparents and any family member who will care for a newborn. No prior training is required, and experienced caregivers are welcome — much of the session is a refresher against current guidelines.

When to book it

Ideally before your baby arrives, or early in the newborn phase — right after you hire a new helper or confinement nanny, so the routine is set correctly from week one.

What she'll learn

  • Safe handling. Lifting, supporting and carrying a newborn with confidence.

  • Feeding. Reading feeding cues, breastfeeding and bottle-feeding basics, paced bottle feeding, burping and keeping a feeding log.

  • Diapering & hygiene. Nappy routine, sterilising, and everyday household hygiene around the baby.

  • Bathing & cord care. Safe bath technique and umbilical-cord care.

  • Safe sleep. Cot set-up and SIDS prevention, with the guidelines explained plainly.

  • Soothing. Comforting techniques that work, and what "normal" looks like in the first six weeks.

  • Recognising concerns. Spotting signs of illness and knowing when to seek professional help.

  • Supporting parents. Adapting to your household, your preferences and a recovering mother.

After the workshop she can

Prepare and give a bottle at the baby's pace, bath and change safely, set the cot up for safe sleep, settle a crying newborn, keep a feeding record you can read at a glance, and tell you when something needs a doctor. Please wear comfortable clothing — the session is hands-on.

Course two · SGD 260 · 6 hours over two sessions

First Aid for Helpers: infant CPR and paediatric emergency training

Practical paediatric emergency response, built around what actually happens at home rather than textbook scenarios. Across two three-hour sessions your helper practises infant and child CPR on mannequins, works through choking, burns, bleeding and febrile seizures, and audits your home for the accidents that are easiest to prevent.

A father playing with his baby, holding the baby's feet against his face and smiling.

Who should attend

Domestic helpers, nannies and caregivers who are responsible for babies and children — particularly anyone who is left alone with them, even for an hour.

Private classes and languages

Private classes are available on request — useful if you want to train two helpers together, or run the session around your household's schedule. Training may also be available in Burmese and Bahasa; message us on WhatsApp to check availability before booking.

What she'll learn

  • Infant and child CPR. Practised hands-on with mannequins until the sequence is automatic.

  • Recognising an emergency. Telling a serious situation from a frightening one.

  • Choking response. Infant and child technique, back blows and chest thrusts.

  • Fever and febrile seizures. What to do in the moment and when to call 995.

  • Falls, head injuries, burns and scalds. Plus cuts, wounds and bleeding.

  • Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. Recognition and immediate response.

  • Drowning awareness and water safety. Bath, pool and condo pool risks.

  • Poisoning and accidental ingestion. Household chemicals, medicines and small objects.

  • Kitchen, food and bottle-preparation safety. Where most home accidents begin.

  • Prevention and protocol. A home risk audit and a written emergency-contact protocol for your fridge door.

After the workshop she can

Start infant CPR without hesitating, clear a choking airway, cool a scald correctly, keep a seizing child safe, decide when an ambulance is needed, and follow an emergency protocol that everyone in your household has agreed on.

Best value

Everyday care and emergency care are two different skills

Knowing how to bath a newborn does not teach anyone what to do when he stops breathing. Knowing infant CPR does not stop a bottle being prepared badly, a cot being made unsafe, or a fever going unnoticed. The two courses barely overlap — which is exactly why they belong together.

Most families book the bundle two to four weeks before their baby's expected arrival, or in the first week home with new help.

Vicky Ratnam

Midwife, Nurse Educator, First Aid Trainer

" The first time a helper deals with a choking infant should not be the first time she has seen one. We teach the situations you hope never happen, the way you would want a friend to teach them — calmly, clearly, with your hands on the work."

Mother & Child is a Singapore centre for growing families at Tanglin Mall, led by family physician and senior IBCLC lactation consultant Dr Mythili Pandi and staffed by midwives, lactation consultants, doulas and educators across 13+ care disciplines. Caregiver classes are taught in small groups, with mannequin practice for CPR and choking, and hands-on newborn demonstrations for feeding, bathing and safe sleep.

What to wear & bring

Comfortable clothing — some practice happens on the floor with mannequins. Bring a notebook and any questions from your household.

The honest answers to what parents ask us most before booking.

"Does my helper really need this?"

My helper already has childcare experience

Experience is not the same as current guidance. Safe sleep advice, choking technique and CPR ratios have all changed over the years. The course aligns what she already knows with what is recommended now — and with how your household wants things done.

Wouldn't an experienced confinement nanny already know this?

Many nannies are highly experienced. A refresher makes sure she is up to date with the safest current newborn practices before she takes care of your baby — and gives you both a shared vocabulary for the weeks ahead.

Can I book just one course?

Yes — Cradle Care ($290) and First Aid for Helpers ($260) are each available on their own, with no conditions attached. The bundle simply costs $70 less than booking both.

She's done a first aid course before

Most general first aid courses are adult-focused. Ours is paediatric throughout: infant and child CPR, infant choking, febrile seizures, bottle preparation and the accidents that happen in a Singapore home. If her certificate is more than a year old, the hands-on practice alone is worth the six hours.

Should parents attend instead?

These sessions are designed for the caregiver who does the work day to day. Parents are welcome to join, and many do — it is the fastest way to get everyone in the house doing the same thing the same way. If you want a course aimed at you, ask us about our parent classes.

Are private classes available?

Yes, on request for First Aid for Helpers — helpful if you have two caregivers to train or a schedule that group dates don't fit.
Message us and we'll arrange it.

Does Cradle Care overlap with First Aid?

No. First Aid covers CPR, choking and household safety. Cradle Care covers everyday newborn care — feeding, bathing, safe sleep and soothing. They are complementary, which is why the bundle exists.

Is it practical, or mostly theory?

Practical. CPR and choking are practised on mannequins; feeding, bathing, nappies and cot set-up are demonstrated and rehearsed. Discussion is encouraged throughout, and helpers are asked to bring their real questions.

Good questions. Clear answers.

One last thing

The same feeding routine whoever gives the bottle. The same cot, set up the same safe way, every nap. And someone in the house who knows exactly what to do in the first sixty seconds of an emergency. That is what this training buys you — not a certificate on the wall, but a calmer home.
