A gentle space to pause, create and reconnect
Sometimes, what we are feeling is difficult to put into words. Art therapy offers another way to explore our thoughts, feelings and experiences — using creativity alongside conversation within a safe and supportive therapeutic space.

Why it matters
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that brings together art-making and the therapeutic relationship.
Rather than relying only on words, you may use colour, images, shapes, textures and different materials to explore what you are experiencing.
There is no expectation of what you should create and no artistic experience is required.
Together with your art therapist, the process can provide space to become curious about what emerges and to explore feelings, experiences, relationships and your sense of self.

Meet Emily
Emily Hiles is a second-year MA Art Therapy trainee at LASALLE College of the Arts and a mixed-media artist with a background in arts and teaching.
Emily's approach is warm, thoughtful and grounded in a psychodynamic understanding of art therapy. She is particularly interested in how creativity can support emotional expression, connection, identity and the transitions we experience throughout life.
She believes you don't need to be artistic to benefit from art therapy. Instead, creativity can provide a gentle way to slow down, become curious about what you're experiencing and explore things that may be difficult to put into words.
Emily is completing her clinical placement at Mother & Child and receives clinical supervision through LASALLE's MA Art Therapy programme.

Who is Art Therapy for?
You don't need to be going through a crisis to benefit from having a space to reflect.
Art therapy may be helpful if you are navigating a period of change, feeling overwhelmed, wanting to understand yourself more deeply, or simply looking for a different way to explore what you are experiencing.
At Mother & Child, we recognise that pregnancy, becoming a parent and the years that follow can bring enormous changes to our bodies, relationships and sense of identity.
Art therapy can offer a space to explore these transitions - but you do not need to be pregnant or a parent to attend.
No previous experience with art is needed.
How do the sessions work
Art therapy sessions are offered as individual 60-minute appointments with Emily.
Each session gives you time to slow down, explore different art materials and reflect on whatever may emerge through the creative process. There is no set project to complete and no expectation of what your artwork should look like.
You don't need to arrive knowing what you want to create or even what you want to talk about. Emily will support you through the process at your own pace.
Come once, or come back each week
Sessions are available weekly on a drop-in basis, so there is no need to commit to a course or package.
You are welcome to book a single session to experience art therapy, or return for further sessions if you find the process helpful.
$20 per 60-minute session
All art materials are included.
Sessions are held privately at Mother & Child, Tanglin Mall.
