Montessori for Babies (2–12 months) in Singapore

Montessori for babies at Mother and Child in Singapore

A calm, prepared space where development is respected, not rushed.

Babies don’t need more stimulation.
They need time, space, and the right environment.

Our Montessori Baby Playgroup (2–12 months) is designed for babies to explore in a calm, prepared environment at their own pace.

The class is best suited for non-walking babies, so the space remains safe, focused, and developmentally appropriate for early movement and exploration.

This is not a drop-off class.
It’s a guided experience for both baby and parent.

“Am I doing enough… or too much?”

Many parents feel caught between:

  • wanting to support development

  • worrying about overstimulation

  • buying too many toys

  • stepping in too quickly — or too late

Montessori offers a different approach:

Observe first. Support thoughtfully. Trust development.

What your baby does in class

Your baby explores, we don’t perform

In a calm, prepared environment, your baby is offered:

  • A small selection of simple, safe materials appropriate for their stage

  • Space for free movement and exploration

  • Time to observe, reach, grasp, roll, crawl, stand, or cruise — depending on age

This may include:

  • Visual materials like black-and-white cards or mobiles (younger babies)

  • Simple grasping objects

  • Floor mats for rolling and tummy time

  • Pull-up bars for older babies beginning to stand and cruise

No flashing lights.
No loud toys.
No forced participation.

What you learn as a parent

This class is as much for you as it is for your baby

You’ll be gently guided to:

  • Understand when to step in, and when to wait

  • Support movement milestones without rushing

  • Encourage concentration and focus

  • Choose toys with intention (and buy fewer, better ones)

  • Set up a simple Montessori-inspired space at home

Parents often leave saying:

“I finally know how to support my baby without feeling anxious or intrusive.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Montessori begins from birth. The focus is on observation, movement, and environment, not instruction.

  • No. Development is not linear. This class supports babies where they are, not where they “should” be.

  • It’s a guided Montessori playgroup , structured, calm, and intentional, with educator support throughout.

  • Yes. Each baby should attend with one trusted adult — this may be a parent or a consistent caregiver (such as a helper or grandparent).

For the class to be effective, we strongly encourage the same adult to attend each session, so the baby feels secure and the adult can build confidence in observing and supporting the baby’s development.

  • This class is designed primarily for non-walking babies.

We encourage babies who are not yet walking so the environment can remain calm, safe, and developmentally appropriate for early movement, exploration, and concentration.

If your baby has just started taking a few steps, do reach out to us! We’re happy to advise on suitability.
